Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker Headache

Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker Headache

Research & Rabbit Holes for Yellow Bellied Sapsucker Headache

Coincidences

Before we get too far into the research I wanted to note the similarities between these episodes in our Ohio series, other than location.

Clients: Houses of Women

All three involve a mother and her daughter (s) (no men, just male children!)

The second and third episodes (165 & 166) were both afraid for the daughter’s child (Brittney had a daughter she didn’t want to bring to the house anymore. Maggie afraid for Nathan. Michaela worried about bringing her daughter here, and Brooke fearing for her own Novee)

History

The second and third episodes (165 & 166) both had fires in which several children died

The first and second episodes (164 & 165) both featured spirits that were in the printing business in life.

 Other

The first and second episodes (164 & 165) had the same sketch artist-that we‘ve seen before!

The first and third episodes (164 & 166) featured Mary Jamba

 Outcome

In all three they did what Amy suggested and the activity stopped or subsided.

The Client and the House

I did find the house and the clients, but nothing much worth noting.

The house last sold in August of 2021, and this episode came out in 2023 so we can assume Brooke and family still live there.

History

The Hartmans

Not much here, but we did wonder why Michael Hartman who lived in Indiana even made it to the final cut since he didn’t even live in Ohio (or if he did it was for a very short time).

Some women’s names were glossed over:

The mother of the Hartman men was Agneta

The Wife of John Hartman was Susanna and she was from Austria

When Searching John Hartman I found that 3 former east Cleveland officers were sent to prison in 2025

Molly Petelinkar

I did find her grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/160820037/molly-petelinkar

But nothing else about her. No stories in the newspapers (newspapers.com has very little Ohio papers).

Nothing on Google either. So I can’t really confirm this story at all.

When I googled Downing on Euclid Beach 1928:

“While 1928 was a significant year for other reasons in the Cleveland area…no drowning incident for that specific year was indexed”

We discussed age of consent (Molly was 15 and John was 22).

By the 1920s, most Midwestern states had finally raised the age of consent to 16, thanks to reform movements that were trying to stop the exploitation of young girls. And when I say “finally,” I mean it, because before those reforms some states had age-of-consent laws as low as 10 or 12 years old, which is… horrifying. Ohio had already set its legal age at 16 by the early 1900s, so by 1928, a relationship between a 22-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl would have been illegal under Ohio law, no matter how anyone tried to frame it at the time.

Lakeview/Collinwood School Fire

I mostly wanted to see if this fire still held the record for the worst school fire in US history and it does.

Note: While the 1937 New London School Explosion in Texas had a higher death toll (estimated 296-319), it is generally classified as an explosion rather than a conventional fire.

We’re Not Doctors

Kidney Disease

John Hartman suffered for ten years with kidney disease. I was curious about the symptoms and found this from Google’s AI

Kidney disease symptoms often develop slowly, with early stages frequently showing no signs. Key indicators include Fatigue, persistent itching, foamy or bloody urine, swelling in the feet and ankles, nausea, reduced urine output, and high blood pressure. Advanced stages may cause shortness of breath, muscle cramps, and difficulty sleeping.

Lobar Pneumonia

John Hartman’s wife Susanna died from this. Google’s AI says in part, “The disease progressed through four stages – congestion, red hepatization, gray hepatization, and resolution – which can lead to complications…” Megan asked her friend who is a doctor what hepatization means. We talked about her response on the show and then she sent Megan this picture.

Kent State

A website called “Trip 101” lists Kent State University as one of its Top 10 most haunted places in Ohio

That’s all folks!
