Ghost Brothers at the Haunted Fitzpatrick Hotel

This week on The Activity Continues, we’re back with the Ghost Brothers for one more investigation before moving on to another paranormal show. The dice chose the Fitzpatrick Hotel in Washington, Georgia, a historic hotel with gorgeous old rooms, some seriously creepy stories, and one fairly significant architectural detail:

It was built on top of a cemetery.

Nothing concerning about that at all.

Welcome to the Fitzpatrick Hotel

The Fitzpatrick Hotel was built by brothers John and Thomas Fitzpatrick in the late 1800s. The Fitzpatrick family originally owned the land and lived in the hotel after it opened.

Eventually, the brothers died without leaving wills, a family dispute followed, and the hotel was sold. It later closed in the 1950s and sat vacant for decades.

And somewhere along the way, people started realizing the place might be haunted.

Which brings us to one of the hotel's more dramatic legends.

A Wife, a Mistress, and a New Year's Eve Ball

According to the story shared on the episode, a gentleman attended a New Year's Eve ball at the hotel with his wife.

The ball was being held in the ballroom.

Or, as Megan helpfully clarified:

“Where balls typically are held.”

And thus, an episode title was born.

Unfortunately, the gentleman apparently neglected one tiny detail when planning his evening: his mistress was also at the hotel.

As Megan observed, everybody knows you don't bring your wife and your mistress to the same place.

This particular romantic scheduling conflict allegedly ended with the jealous wife pushing the mistress from a third-story window.

Whether every detail of that legend can be proven is another question, but guests have reported strange energy and unexplained activity in the hotel over the years.

And the jilted mistress isn't the only possible spirit hanging around.

Who Is Haunting the Fitzpatrick?

The hotel's reported paranormal activity includes unexplained footsteps, lights turning themselves on, and possible appearances by members of the Fitzpatrick family.

There's also a reported little girl who likes to play in the hallways.

Nope.

Megan pointed out something we've discussed before: when someone encounters what appears to be the ghost of a child, how do you know it's actually a child?

What if it's something else pretending to be one?

And with that cheerful thought, we will never sleep again.

Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary...

The investigation also involves mirrors, the idea that mirrors can act as portals, and eventually the Ghost Brothers deciding to try Bloody Mary.

Naturally, this led Amy and Megan to compare childhood Bloody Mary experiences.

Megan admitted that she “lightly played” Bloody Mary as a kid. She would go into the bathroom, but she wouldn't actually say the words because she was afraid something might happen.

Amy, meanwhile, DID have something happen while playing Bloody Mary as a kid and has apparently learned absolutely nothing from the experience.

During the Ghost Brothers' own attempt, we also learned an important rule for paranormal investigators who happen to be married:

No mistresses. Living or dead.

Seems reasonable.

Paranormal Evidence and Extremely Tight Pants

The Ghost Brothers conduct EVP sessions and try several methods of communicating with whoever might still be occupying the hotel.

But we'd be lying if we said we were paying equal attention to all of the evidence.

At one point, one of the guys announces that if he stretches any farther, his tight pants are going to rip.

The investigation moves on.

Megan does not.

Several moments later, while everyone else is trying to communicate with the dead, she quietly observes:

“Those are quite tight pants.”

This is the kind of rigorous paranormal analysis you have come to expect from The Activity Continues.

Damn It, Steve

One of the more interesting moments happens when the guys hear unexplained movement in the hotel.

At first, there's an obvious explanation: Steve.

Damn it, Steve.

Except Steve isn't where the sound came from.

The investigators realize the noise seems to have moved down the hallway, and they're supposedly the only people in that part of the hotel.

Suddenly “Damn it, Steve” becomes considerably less reassuring.

Those are actually some of our favorite paranormal moments. Not necessarily a dramatic apparition or a gadget lighting up, but something ordinary happens that should have a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Until it doesn't.

So...Is the Fitzpatrick Hotel Haunted?

After reviewing the night's evidence, the Ghost Brothers conclude that some of the hotel's reported spirits may indeed still be hanging around.

They also believe there “definitely could be” other spirits there.

But they can't say for sure.

There definitely could be.

Maybe.

Possibly.

Which prompted Amy to offer perhaps the most accurate summary of paranormal television ever spoken:

“That was a lot of not really sure.”

And that's okay.

We don't need every investigation wrapped up with a spectral bow and a notarized statement from the dead. Half the fun is deciding for ourselves whether something is genuinely unexplained, merely weird, or three grown men terrifying each other in an old hotel.

And the Ghost Brothers are incredibly entertaining while doing it.
