The Not-So-Scary Side of Ghosts

The Not-So-Scary Side of Ghosts

The Not-So-Scary Side of Ghosts: Our Conversation with Rebekah the Ghost Guide

When we first picked up The Not-So-Scary Guide to Ghosts, we expected to learn a few new things about the paranormal.

What we didn't expect was how much the book would change the way we think about ghosts altogether.

That's exactly what happened when we sat down with Rebekah Carmichael, better known as The Ghost Guide, for Episode 175 of The Activity Continues.

From the moment Rebekah joined us, it felt less like an interview and more like catching up with a friend we'd known for years. We laughed... a lot. We wandered into topics nobody could have predicted (yes, there's an entire conversation about bras that somehow made perfect sense), and we explored some surprisingly thoughtful ideas about history, empathy, and what it really means to investigate the paranormal.

A Different Way to Think About Ghosts

One of the things we loved most about Rebekah's book is that it doesn't try to convince you that ghosts exist.

Instead, it encourages curiosity.

Throughout our conversation, Rebekah reminded us that if ghosts were once living people, maybe we should approach them with the same empathy we'd show anyone else. Rather than asking only how someone died, she encourages us to wonder who they were. What made them laugh? What did they love? What stories have been forgotten?

It's a simple shift in perspective, but it completely changes how we think about haunted places, ghost tours, and paranormal investigations.

History Before Horror

If you've listened to The Activity Continues for any length of time, you know we love a good ghost story.

But one of our favorite moments in the interview came when Rebekah talked about ghost tours.

Instead of focusing on sensationalized tragedy, she looks for tours that honor the people behind the stories. Ghost stories, she explained, often preserve the human side of history in ways textbooks can't.

As history nerds who also happen to love spooky things, that really resonated with us.

A Book That Meets You Where You Are

Whether you're an experienced paranormal investigator or someone who still sleeps with a hallway light on (we're looking at you, Megan 😉), The Not-So-Scary Guide to Ghosts is incredibly approachable.

We especially appreciated how responsibly Rebekah talks about spirituality and mental health. She encourages readers to stay curious while also recognizing when an experience may have a perfectly ordinary explanation. That balance is refreshing and, honestly, something we wish we saw more often in paranormal spaces.

The book is filled with practical advice, personal stories, thoughtful exercises, and plenty of humor, making it feel less like a lecture and more like sitting down for coffee with someone who genuinely wants to help you explore the unknown without fear.

One of Our Favorite Conversations

We've been lucky enough to interview some incredible guests over the years, and this conversation immediately became one of our favorites.

Rebekah is every bit as warm, funny, and genuine as she appears in her videos. There were moments that made us think, moments that made us laugh, and moments that reminded us why we love having these conversations in the first place.

We have a feeling this won't be the last time you'll hear her on The Activity Continues.
