Funhouse Without the Fun
TAC 159: Panic at the Disco, Panic in the Hallway
This week’s TAC episode starts with The Dead Files, sure… but let’s be honest, the real stars of this show are the unplanned detours.
While discussing “House of Mirrors,” Amy and Megan fall headfirst into one of the most beautifully derailed conversations in TAC history: Oregon Chai confessions, a surprise cryptid sighting in Amy’s backyard, whether possums are adorable or the devil’s interns, and why yelling at ghosts is the paranormal equivalent of poking a bear.
Amy shares the tale of a tall, gray, two-legged creature sprinting between her house and the neighbor’s — a moment that sparks an entire taxonomy debate about turkeys, cryptids, and the perils of having dogs that absolutely will alert you to things you don’t want to see.
Megan, meanwhile, evangelizes Oregon Chai like she’s running a caffeinated cult, complete with recommendations, preparation details, and a strong stance on the superiority of vanilla chai.
Then comes the possum showdown:
Are they cute? Are they horrifying? Are they friends? Are they an omen?
The answer, apparently, is “yes, but also absolutely not” depending on which host you ask.
From there, the conversation shifts smoothly (well… TAC-smoothly) into the ongoing “What should happen to our bodies when we die?” debate. Cremation? Tree pod? Body farm donation? Amy tries to keep Megan calm as she spirals about being accidentally cremated alive. Megan tries to convince Amy she’ll be a lovely tree. It’s a whole situation.
Somewhere in the middle of all this, the actual Dead Files episode is discussed. Tricksters, mirror illusions, chaos spirits — but really, those are just supporting characters compared to the TAC tangent multiverse.
The episode wraps with talk about the upcoming season finale, listener suggestions, and ideas for next year’s investigations — but the heart of this one is pure TAC energy: cozy, spooky, chaotic, caffeinated, and weird in all the right ways.
Pull up a blanket, grab a mug of chai (trust Megan), and settle in.
